MY REVEIEW
I was given an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is not only an amazing and well written story but also extremely heart provoking. I flew through this book and when I reached the end, I ended up asking myself what I would do in this situation. Can love overcome lies and deceit when the person you trust most in the world has had sex with someone else? 8 weeks start off with a bang. Cal is in Vegas for a bachelor party and wakes up after having had a one night stand. You can feel his pain as he realizes what he has done and whether he should tell his wife. I felt sorry for him but at the same time wanted to yell, “how could you?” When he does confess, (on his anniversary no less). you are totally gutted. This is a definite tissue needing read. This book takes you there. There is pain, depression, anger, regret, denial between two people who love each other. Not only is Cal and Shelly’s relationship threatened but their inner group of friends are pulled into the drama. Cal has 8 weeks to get Shelly to forgive him and to repair the broken state of their marriage. Will 8 weeks be enough? I was on pins and needles until the very end of the book. The author does a phenomenal job of bringing your emotions to the forefront. The writing pulls you in and doesn’t let go. You will not be able to put this book down. This is part of a series but can definitely be read as a stand alone. As an added bonus, this is told in a dual POV which added immensely to the story. I devoured this read and found myself laughing, crying, and feeling angry. This is one of the best books that I have read regarding cheating and its ramifications.

I checked the time on my cell and leaned against the wall. The desert heat was not in any way helping my already-tense mood and irritated disposition. A guy walked by, flicking his cigarette into the dirt. Note to self: you know you’re tense as hell when you’re halfway tempted to grab said cigarette and suck the nicotine dry from the remains.
And I didn’t even smoke.
Shhhit.
My head hurt, my muscles were sore, and Trace was pissed. I closed my eyes and leaned back against the building.
“Hey there.” A flirty voice interrupted my self-inflicted torture session. I opened one eye, then two. A blond-haired girl in six-inch heels and something I can only assume at one point use to be a shirt, hanging over her shoulder, walked into my personal space. Her shirt-dress thing barely met her thighs.
“Yes?” I kept my sunglasses on. If I took them off and glared, she’d probably run screaming down the street, and I wasn’t into scaring females… at least not in that way. I knew I looked downright pissed as hell.
“Just thought you looked lonely.” She lifted her shoulder and offered a teasing smile. Did that really work on other guys?
“You thought wrong,” I said simply. “I’m holding the wall up — like Samson.”
“Samson?” She looked around as if waiting for another man to appear.
“From the Bible,” I clarified.
“The what?”
“Gotta love Vegas,” I muttered under my breath. “Look, I don’t want any.”
“Any what?” She ran a manicured nail down my chest, biting down on her lip at the same time. I could only imagine her point was to get me to stare at her lips, but all I felt was irritation. Damn Chase and Mil. I just wanted to go to bed, but I needed to talk with him before tomorrow.
“Sex.” My voice clipped. “I. Don’t. Want. Any.”
“But—” She twirled a piece of blond- hair in her fingers.
“I’m gay.”
“Right.” She snorted.
“I’m into men.”
“Oh really?” She closed the distance between us. Just as I was ready to seriously put my hands on her and push, I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder.
“Hey there, hot stuff.” Tex said in a low voice as his hand grabbed my ass, cupping it with a little too much enthusiasm. “You ready?”
I ground my teeth together and forced a smile. “Yup.”
“Oh…” The girl stepped back. “Um, sorry, you guys, uh, enjoy your night.” She pushed past Tex so fast I was afraid she was going to teeter off her heels and get hit by a taxi.
“Tex.” I seethed.
“Hmm?” He took off his sunglasses and tilted his head as the girl hurried away.
“You can take your hand off my ass now.”
“Why? Afraid you like it too much?”
I pushed against him.
“Just embrace your feelings!” He shouted, earning the attention of a family walking by with their two little kids.
I grabbed him by the front of his shirt and threw him few feet away from me, trying my damnedest not to smile.
“Admit it. You keep me around for comic relief.” Tex nodded with a smirk.
“I admit nothing.” I lost the war against smiling and started laughing. “But I do keep your ass away from Campisi, so remember that next time you start yelling about me being your lover.”
“True.” Tex grinned. “Oh, and P.S., don’t knock it till you try it.”
“P.S.,” I repeated in the same voice. “Still pissed at you for screwing over my sister.”
“Yeah well.” Tex sobered. “It’s for the best.”
“Breaking her heart and bringing in whores is what’s best for her?”
Tex lifted his hands into the air. “Look, I didn’t say my methods were sound or that they were intelligent, just let us deal with it, okay? We’re big kids.”
“Kids.” I snorted. “That about sums it up.”
A town car pulled up next to the curb. Chase got out and then held out his hand to Mil. My eyes narrowed; she looked different. Happier.
Her mom had just died, and she’d survived a bombing.
And she was smiling like the Taliban had just declared world peace.
Chase gripped her so tight that I saw the white of his knuckles.
I tilted my head, still watching them when Tex said. “Dude, you get laid?”
“Tex,” I snapped. “Go get something for their luggage.”
“But—”
“Go.”
Tex flipped me off, but ended up jogging over to the main entrance while I inspected both Mil and Chase. “I’m not saying this to be an ass—”
“Here we go.” Mil crossed her arms.
Chase waited.
I licked my lips and tried to appear indifferent. “But if you guys start screwing each other now, I may have to shoot one or both of you. It’s not the time to play house, got it?”
“Play house,” Chase repeated in a deadpan voice as he dipped his free hand into his back pocket, most likely clenching a pair of brass knuckles.
“I know it’s your honeymoon,” I continued. “But this [P1] little scenario you’ve got going on with the whole hot and cold is going to have to wait until everyone’s safe. So Chase, keep it in your pants for once in your life, and Mil, stop trying to seduce the poor kid, alright? It’s like dangling a damn fry in front of a seagull.”
“Who’s a fry?” Tex asked, pulling the luggage cart with him.
“Mil.”
“Are we eating dinner or something? Because I have to admit,” Tex leaned against the cart, “I’m freaking starving.” He eyed Chase and Mil. “Then again, I’m sure you both are too. All those extracurricular really take it out of ya.”
Chase took off his sunglasses, his face twisting in irritation and annoyance, no smile. Nothing. He was pissed.
“Chase,” I said slowly. “You know I’m right. You’re the best I have. I need your focus to be on The Family. Your family. Then you can screw all you want, okay?”
Mil looked like she wanted to punch me in the face. Chase took a step forward, but she stopped him.
“Good talk.” I exhaled. “Chase, I’ll see you down in the bar in a half-hour, okay? We have business to discuss. Mil, you can go find the girls. They’re having dinner out by the pool.”
Nobody moved.
After a few seconds of tense silence where I was pretty sure Chase was trying to convince himself not to strangle me to death, Tex cleared his throat and pointed to the luggage. “You guys need help, then?”
“Yeah,” Chase croaked. “Thanks.”
We loaded them up and sent them on their way.
“Tell me,” Tex asked once we were walking back toward the bar. “Is your only goal to see how far you can push Chase before he kills you in your sleep?”

This is a novella so thus a shorter read, but that doesn’t lessen the impact of this story at all. Missing Girl is an intense, sometimes painful and dark read. It makes you stop and think about what choices you would make when given no choices. Sophia Cruz was still a teenager when she was abducted by knife point and ending up choosing the world of prostitution and being a prisoner. This book tells the story of Sophia before that life. This is the story of Sophia when she was just your average girl that was forced into living a horrible and degrading lifestyle. This is a story of choices, some of which are painful beyond imagining. This is the first book that I have read by the author and it made a huge impact on me. Her writing is powerful. She is able to get under your skin and emotions in a few pages. This is definitely a book that you won’t be able to forget long after you are done reading it.

By the age of 16 she had written her novel, Silent Witness; a John Grisham- like tale about the treachery and brutality of the Colombian cartel. Before ever hitting the book shelves, Silent Witness was adapted into a screenplay that was picked up by a major Hollywood studio. It was at this time that Piper learned the harsh lessons of Hollywood and the literary world. NEVER pay an agent one measly dollar until you have a contract in your hands and listen to your parents when they advise you against blindly sending $500 to have your dreams come true overnight. Sometimes parents actually know what they are talking about.
For the next several years (okay, about 20 years) Piper held onto her dream of becoming a published novelist, but decided to take up procrastination instead. It didn’t pay well, but it sure felt great to get nothing accomplished and pursue other random dreams. Finally, in 2012, after an eight year period as a social worker and a seven year stint as a business owner Piper decided it was time to get back into the habit of storytelling . . . err, writing. She began freelancing and ghost writing for several popular websites, while continuing to postpone writing her original work.
Piper’s mother had told her during her teenage years that writers write what they know. Of course, she didn’t take her mother’s advice back then and continued to write about drug cartels (because didn’t you know that every 16 year old living in rural Missouri knows about drug cartels? Meth – maybe. Colombia drug runners – no). However, in true Piper fashion, after 20 years she finally took that parental advice.
In late fall of 2013, Piper debuted her first novel as a bona fide adult. The Waiting Room is a novel that started as the title of a short story collection, but quickly proved it could be so much more. It evolved into a story about the complexities of family, the invisible bonds that connect people, and the pain that can reverberate through the choices we make.
Piper Punches lives 45 minutes from downtown St. Louis with her husband and two daughters. She continues procrastinate and write on a daily basis and is excited to share her stories with new readers each and every day!
1. I met Mario Lopez and Tiffani Amber Thiessan during a Saved by the Bell Mall tour. Somewhere I probably still have the autographed headshots.
2. A trip to India and Africa is on my bucket list.
3. I could eat sour cream with a spoon.
4. My parents decided public school was a bad influence on me when in the 7th grade I decided to use the school’s copy machine to alter my report card. I was promptly sent to a catholic school for 8th grade and went to a Catholic high school.
5. During that 7th grade year, I spent the majority of my lunches using a payphone trying to contact the New Kids on the Block to schedule a concert at our school.
6. I wrote my first full-length novel at the age of 16.
7. I have ran three half marathons, but I have no desire to run a full marathon – EVER!
8. At the age of 27, I decided to stop trying to dye my hair lighter and go for the natural look. That is when genetics decided to laugh in my face and began weaving gray throughout my hair. Needless to say, I now have to dye my hair every three weeks.
9. I visited NYC in 2010 and had the opportunity to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But, because I hate the cold, I ended standing inside of a mall and watching the parade from a window.
10. The most moving experience I ever had was when I visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Atlanta.
11. I love to read, but I am not someone that plows through books. I like to take my time and fall in love with the story. Sometimes I will purposely take a month or more to finish a book because I don’t want it to end.
12. Aside from writing, I also teach music and movement to preschoolers.
13. The job that shaped and molded me into the person I am today was at a domestic violence shelter where I worked for 8 years.
14. If I were not a writer, my dream job would be a profiler with the FBI.
15. Following that train of thought . . . I have an unhealthy obsession with serial killers and international terrorists.
16. My husband and I applied for The Amazing Race. Still waiting on that phone call. . .
17. Once I find a pair of shoes I love, I never want to let them go. I have stapled, glued, and taped shoes back together because I couldn’t fathom throwing them away.
18. I am only 5’1, so high heels are my best friend.
19. Someday I want to star on General Hospital and play a backstabbing villian.
20. Lastly, I used to think that Miami was a person like “My aunt, my uncle, my cousin.” I wasn’t the quickest kid. Good thing I outgrew that!

I was given an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Natalie Davenport has had no luck in the man department. Her life is a succession of bad boyfriends and bad experiences. When she meets Colin she falls hard and she is torn. Her body and heart wants her to go for it but her mind is telling her to proceed with caution. But how can a woman resist the force of Colin Hampton? Colin is scrumptious. I spent this entire series lusting over this sexy and charming man. Women of all ages and types are drawn to his charisma and heat.
This series is capital H.O.T. hot, sexy , dramatic and fun. It has romance, some down and dirty, danger, action, Russian mobsters, haunting secrets and a great grandma named Helga. I loved every minute of reading this series and watching Natalie and Colin’s relationship change and grow. These characters matured over the course of these books. Their relationship had its ups and downs and both tried to protect themselves from being hurt. We get to watch these walls slowly come down. I want more of this couple. More of their sexiness, more of everything. This was a quick read to me because I have been addicted to this series from the start. This is a great read that I recommend to everyone.
