MY TEARS OF TESS REVIEW
Wow! My mind was totally blown by this book. Having read it I can’t get it out of my mind. Just a warning, Tears of Tess is not your normal love story. Sure it has all the pre requisites of a romance novel- a hot and sexy lead male character, sex, and drama, but there is so much more- violence, pain, passion and redemption. This is a dark, disturbing and twisted tale but I guarantee that you will not be able to put it down. Pepper Winters has created a novel that will slowly get into your brain and wind itself throughout your entire mind’s landscape until you are not sure what happened or how you got there. This book deals with what some may consider “taboo” subjects such as slavery, human trafficking, extreme BDSM and sexual violence. But underneath it all is the story of a woman who fights back. Tess is strong and willful. She refuses to submit to the indignities that she repeatedly subjected to. When she is battered and bruised after being sold to her “master”, she still remains belligerent, eventually turning the tables on her sadistic owner, Q. This is where the story takes a sharp, very sharp turn to the left. Through all the pain and suffering he has caused Tess, she finds her feelings towards Q changing due to his sporadic acts of humanity and kindness. Even though Q portrayed as a vile creature, you still find small slivers of humanity shining through and its these small glimpses that make Q, dare I say, likable? By the end of the book, when he speaks of redemption and revenge on Tess’s behalf, I found myself entranced with this character and the real man that Tess has unearthed beneath the violence and pain. Don’t get me wrong. There isn’t a mushy ending with the two main characters riding off into the sunset. There is violence and pain, but there is also love and hope. Tears of Tess is tense and full of suspense. It is also a fast, addictive read because it is impossible to put the book down. Pepper Winters has created characters with so many different layers, it is breathtaking. The plot is intricated, a delicate balance, a high wire act. Where there lies good there also lies evil. I honestly cannot express all the emotions I experienced while reading this book. I am beyond impressed with Pepper Winters writing style. She is the ultimate puppet master, making us feel forgiveness and empathy when we should feel pain and anger. I ended this story feeling satisfied with its conclusion. This is a highly recommended read. 5 out of 5 stars from this reviewer.

MY REVIEW:
To say that I was blown away by S. Celi’s book ,The Undesirables, would be the understatement of the year. I went into this novel not sure quite what to expect. I usually don’t read futuristic apocalyptic stories but decided to give this one a try. Let me just say that S. Celi now has a fan for life. The Undesirables is set in 2072. It is a bleak future world run by dictator Maxwell Cooper and his faction, The Party. The world is at war with Canada over oil. It is a harsh world where you either follow the rules and fall in line or die. The main protagonist, Charlotte Walker, is a plucky, strong, smart 18 year old girl who lives with an alcoholic mother and does what she can not to attract attention and just live her life. And then there is Fostino Sanchez, who knows that in order to survive, Maxwell Cooper must stay in power and he does all he can to ensure this. In order to guarantee the Party’s control, Fostino knows that the renegade group, the Undesirables, to which Charlotte is a member, must be dealt with and eliminated. Over time, Fostino falls in love with Charlotte and together the pair must learn to survive the harsh realities of their world. This book was simply fantastic. It was full of suspense, action, drama, and secrets. The Undesirables was a very quick read for me as the plot was set at a lightning fast pace. I was enthralled and enraptured. The characters are very well written, strong and intelligent. Their dialogue was smart and crisp. The Undesirables, although the two main characters are teens, is by no means a sweet little romantic drama. The author did a magnificent job in creating this futuristic bleak world. The writing will bring you right into Charlotte and Fostino’s world. I adored Charlotte, she was no weak female in distress. She was strong, smart and savvy. A joy to read about. The Undesirables put me in mind of such novels as Divergent and the Hunger Games but in all honesty (and nothing against those novels), I enjoyed the Undesirables much more. If you like dystopian, futuristic novels then you will love the Undesirables. I would recommend this book for not only teens but adults as well. This is the first book in a series and I absolutely cannot wait for the sequels.
